The Medical Equipment Ministry began in the early 2000s through the Bargain Basket Thrift Store. Rather than selling donated medical items for profit, the ministry made them available to individuals and families in need, helping community members access essential equipment during difficult times.
As the need for these services grew, the ministry outgrew its space within the Bargain Basket. In 2023, it was relocated to the United Church of Marco Island campus, allowing for expanded operations and greater accessibility to those seeking assistance.
A key part of the ministry’s growth was Wanda Anderson, former UCMI Administrative Assistant. Through her leadership, compassion, and dedication, the program flourished into what many lovingly called “Medical Magic.” Her care helped shape a ministry that provided not only equipment, but also comfort, dignity, and kindness to countless individuals and families.
Today, the Medical Equipment Ministry continues that legacy of service, compassion, and community support. It remains a meaningful expression of the church’s mission to care for neighbors in practical and loving ways.
