Join as we welcome, Thomas Eastwood, a retired as Director of the IRS Michigan District where he managed over 1500 employees and all IRS activities including criminal investigation, audit, collection, taxpayer service, and administration. He previously served as IRS Director in Milwaukee, Louisville, and Fargo, Dean of the IRS School of Professional Development in Washington, and Assistant Director in Manhattan and Indianapolis. He was a member of the Senior Executive Service.

Jan 8, 2020 – 2:00pm to 3:30pm

During WWII and the cold war, the Soviets stole US atomic secrets.  We will address what US intelligence knew and what they didn’t know.  Also the spies, why they did it , and how they got caught.  Most people know the basics.  We will discuss the detail with emphasis on Julius and Ethel Rosenberg.  Topics:  the Rosenberg spies network; were they guilty and why were they executed; the Cambridge Five; Verona Project; the Manhattan Project; Bletchley Park: and lesser known spies.

Jan 15, 2020 –  2:00pm to 3:30pm 

Review of cold war intelligence; especially the seizure of the US spy ship Pueblo in 1968 by North Korea.  The DPRK is an irrational despot who controls a huge standing army and uses his nuclear arsenal to bully the world.  He cannot deliver his weapons to the US mainland today, but he provokes the US (as his grandfather did).  One Pueblo crewman was killed and 82 were imprisoned and tortured for eleven months.  Topics:  Kim Dynasty; Pueblo mission and attack; US response; “research vessels; Russian trawlers; Pueblo officers, EC-121 Shoot down; aftermath and implications for  today.

Join a retired federal law enforcement official in a review of the former FBI Directors book and the issues.  A fact based analysis of:  political influence of federal agencies (FBI, DOJ, CIA, IC, IRS); Martha Stewart; Rudy Giuliani; enhanced interrogation, warrantless surveillance; the Clinton Investigation; Russian election meddling, James Comey, Andrew McCabe.

Dr. Mark Williams will share how the ancient rabbis of old might help all of us communicate our faith in 2020. Rev. Williams will also share how his preaching methodology continues to be informed by his doctoral thesis that focused on communication within the ancient rabbinical tradition of which Jesus was part.
