Veteran's Day Service
|
Sunday
November 21, 2004 was an Old Fashion Pilgrim Thanksgiving Service.
It started with our greeters dressed as Pilgrims. The women church
members were seated on one side of the sacristy and the men on the
other. In the earliest Pilgrim days the call to worship was given
on a conch shell or by a drummer. Our children led the procession
beating a drum and ringing bells. The tithing man opened and
closed the service by tapping three times on a wood block (in olden days
he used a tithing pole and tapped it three times on the floor).
The Beadle carried a large, old Bible in the procession of participants
and placed it on the pulpit, opened to the first reading. In
the early church, there were no musical instruments. The Precentor
sang a line and the congregation then repeated that line. It was a
fun lesson on the way our forefathers worshipped.
