unity!

WOMEN'S FELLOWSHIP

There is a popular song whose lyrics say, “Girls just
want to have fun.” The truth is everyone
wants to have fun, and the women of United Church are no exception.
Our monthly meetings, beginning in November and ending in April, are
planned around fun, food, and fellowship.

While Women’s Fellowship provides a wonderful opportunity
to build friendships with other women, both from within the church and from
without, it also provides us the opportunity to actively engage in the mission
ministry of the church. Women’s
Fellowship has supported Immokalee Child Care Center, Habitat for Humanity, and
Friendship House among others.
 Blankets!
In
four years United Church has contributed 500 blankets to Project Linus.
This mission outreach is possible because of the willingness of the twenty
+ knitters, crocheters, sewers, and quilters in the congregation, who each
spend hours creating the beautiful, colorful blankets.
They share their talents in the name of the United Church of Marco Island. We honor all of them
with our gratitude and appreciation. Each blanket is important but
we must recognize our champion knitter, Pat, pictured in the photo
with her husband, Bob. She has made over 100 blankets.
Before the blankets leave
United Church, a label is added which says "Made with tender loving
care for Project Linus". The blankets are "a big hug" to
those experiencing illness or trauma and are distributed locally to ove r
12 qualified agencies. Recipients include Shelter for Abused Women,
Immokalee Neighborhood Services, Immokalee Friendship House,
Children's Medical Services, Youth Haven, NCH Pediatric Units,
Children's Hospital in Miami, Hospice, The Guardian Ad Liten
Team, Caring for Kids, an orphanage in Ukraine and Moi Hospital in
Kenya.
We recently received a
copy of a letter written on behalf of Children's Medical Services in
Naples which serves about 1200 outpatients. The letter recognized
that the children of CMS need big hugs and TLC in unlimited
quantities and thanked Project Linus for the caring, generosity and desire
to make a difference in the lives of the children of CMS.
It is not necessary to belong to United Church to attend
Women’s Fellowship. We look
forward to welcoming all who attend. You
don’t even need a reservation -
just come and find the “friends” in “fellowship.”
